Oriya Literature

The original works of Oriya literature like Samhita, Gita, Malika, Bhajana, Janana, Chautisa, Chhandas, Chaupadis, Chitau, Poi, Boli, Padia, Champu, Pala, Suanga, Lila, Rasa and Samar Sahitya have immense popularity. We have made a systematic attempt to collect a number of them in the recent years. The chhandas reached the climax in the hands of Upendra Bhanja. His Vaidehisha Vilasha and Lavanyavati have been regarded as the masterpieces of Oriya literature. Among others Rama vibha and Kalpalata by Arjuna Dasa, Banamali Dasa and Chata Ichhavati of Banamali Dasa, Parimala of Narasimha Sena, Premalochana of Vishnu Dasa, Rasakallola of Dinakrushna Dasa, Raghunatha Vilasa of Dhananjaya Bhanja are the forerunners of Oriya Chhanda literature. After them Sadananda Kavi Surya Brahma, Abhimanyu Samanta Simhar, Bhakta Charana, Banamali Patnaik, Gopala Krishna and Kavi Surya Baladeva Rath became immortal through their writings of Rama Kayyas, Krushna Kavyas and other Oriya.
